The European Championship qualifier between the Dutch under-17 players' team and Turkey in 's-Gravenzande on Sunday was dedicated to 100 years of friendship between the countries. Football can inspire, bridge differences and change the world. This shared passion brings both nations closer together.
Prior to the match, Head of Corporate Affairs & Social Impact David Pranger (KNVB), Ambassador Selçuk Ünal (Turkey) and Deputy Director Europe Mauritz Verheijden (Foreign Affairs) gave a speech in which they talked about the talented footballers, the rapid development of women's football and the hundred years of friendly relations between the countries.
The talented players conveyed the day's message well at the Juliana Sports Park. The teams showed themselves worthy sports ambassadors and made it a great match. The Netherlands eventually drew the longest straw, winning 6-1.

"The KNVB appreciates the excellent collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Football has the power to bring people together all over the world. Football bridges differences between people and nations. It was an honor for us to host the ambassador of Türkiye for this wonderful occasion, in which football and diplomacy went hand in hand," says David Pranger, Head of Corporate Affairs.
"We also thank the supporters of both countries for the fantastic and unique atmosphere," Pranger continues. "Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship symbolized the strong bond between the Netherlands and Türkiye and contributed to an unforgettable experience for all spectators."
