Small countries like the Netherlands need to be creative and a little smart in order to keep up internationally. For this reason, innovation is one of the KNVB’s strategic pillars and its home is building #11 on the KNVB Campus in Zeist. To keep pace with the growing importance of data and digitisation, the Netherlands football association has opened a second building called #11 data & digital.
The KNVB’s #11 innovation hub has spawned many innovative ideas in recent years. These include the VAR, the Future of Football Cup tournament with new rules, the eQuality Index that ensures a more equal division in amateur football competitions, the Talent Monitor, VR research among referees, a dashboard for top-quality stadium pitches and other innovation challenges in collaboration with the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The current building will continue to be the location for the VAR as well as various start-ups and key parties in the field of innovation. It offers an 'open workspace' for more than 35 companies from within the KNVB’s innovation network.
#11 data & digital brings together internal and external sports data experts, combining their expertise to shape data-driven projects and accelerate the KNVB’s digital ambitions. With an eye to supporting digital knowledge transfer, the second #11 premises also houses a permanent webinar studio. In addition, #11 data & digital will be the new home and training centre of E_Oranje: the KPN E_Room. It will also be the venue for official FIFA 22 international matches.
